Art History for the Prep Class

Art History for the Prep Class

Learning about art history is essential for all students in primary schools. It is an education based on a multidisciplinary approach to works of art that allows students to know about the historical and cultural references necessary in understanding these works and to enrich their own artistic activity.

The objectives of this education are:
- to learn about masterpieces from different fields of art and from different eras and civilizations in a direct and personal way;
- to observe works of art, thanks to their familiarity with them, with a more informed and sensitive eye;
- to gain a personal culture of universal value.

Sophie, a tour guide-interpreter, professional speaker, and artist, will lead these special sessions for the Prep class after the return from the March Holidays. Educated in France, Sophie is used to analyzing and commenting on works of art in museums, and she regularly organizes events for children and adults at the French Institute and at Alexandre Dumas High School. Last year, Sophie led the "Step-By-Step Art" workshop at P'titCREF, where children were able to discover and recreate great works of art step by step. This workshop concluded with an exposition at Tsar Voyages. Sophie's goal is to introduce children to works of art, giving them their first artistic reference points and awakening their artistic sensibility. Also, observation and practice will contribute to the development of their imaginations and their drawing abilities.
